‘I’m focused on winning a fight’: George Kambosos Jr does not read into verbal altercation with Richardson Hitchins

With only a few days until his next attempt at a major world title, George Kambosos Jr speaks with Fight Hype about his most recent press conference with Richardson Hitchins, thinks Hitchins is distracted by the wrong things and hoping to recapture the magic he had in his win over Teofimo Lopez. Here are some snippets. Kambosos on having a verbal argument with Hitchins at their previous press appearance. “Yesterday became heated. Look, I’m quite relaxed, peaceful, and composed. I’ve been at this level for many years, and I’m the ultimate professional. But he talks a lot, and I’m a terrific talker, so I’m going to respond. As much as I don’t want to argue with this guy, I won’t allow him spew nonsense. And that’s exactly what it was: a heap of foolish garbage. “I believe he is committing suicide in order to gain weight, thus he is saying a lot of gibberish and things that do not make sense. One of the things he did was beat the guys who had beaten me. I don’t remember when he fought Haney or Lomachenko. So, June 14th, Saturday night, victory.” On if he had a wager with Hitchins. “Listen, I am too smart for that. I have the best financial counsel in the game. You do not surround yourself with nasty individuals like I have. Why would I gamble a 1:1 stake with a guy who doesn’t even have it in his bank account when the chances are $7 in my favor? Come on, business. I could make three-fifty on that. So there’s a significant wager against him to make more than he has throughout his entire career. “But I am focused on the fight. He’s been thinking about this because he has no money in his bank account. That’s his thinking, and I don’t care. I am focused on winning a battle and becoming a two-time world champion. That is my concentration, that is my goal, and that is where I will be on June 14th, this Saturday night.
