Michigan State University has suffered a huge loss when junior guard Tre Holloman transfers to North Carolina State University. Holloman, a crucial contributor to the Spartans’ victorious 2024-25 season, confirmed his commitment to the Wolfpack through social media on April 13, 2025.

During his junior season, Holloman started 16 of 37 games and averaged 9.1 points, 3.7 assists, and 23.1 minutes per game. His play helped Michigan State win the Big Ten Championship and progress to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight. Notably, he scored a career-high 20 points in a decisive victory against Michigan on March 9, 2025.

Holloman’s transfer comes as NC State is undergoing a big roster change under new head coach Will Wade, who formerly worked at LSU and McNeese State. The Wolfpack have seen seven players enter the transfer channel, pushing Wade to actively seek new talent. In addition to Holloman, NC State has gained transfers Alyn Breed and Quadier Copeland, plus commitments from high school recruits Matthew Able and Zymicah Wilkins.

Holloman’s relocation to NC State allows him to take on a more significant role. He was known for his playmaking abilities and had 137 assists last season, with an assist rate of 29.5%, ranking him 76th in the nation. His efficient free-throw shooting, at 85.1%, further highlights his offensive capabilities. The loss of Holloman creates a gap in Michigan State’s backcourt. His leadership and consistency were vital attributes, and the Spartans will have to rely on other players to fill the void as they prepare for the new season.
