Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s manager, has spoken to the media before of their Europa League quarter-final match against Lyon.
Old Trafford will host the Ligue 1 side in what will be another difficult contest for both teams. The winners of this battle on aggregate will face either Rangers or Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals at the start of May. Amorim originally announced that striker Joshua Zirkee will miss the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury.

“Joshua is out of the season. He is not going to play again this season. We must prepare him for the upcoming season. It is difficult for any player to quit, but that is the nature of football. “He needs to be prepared to recover,” he stated.

Amorim then confirmed that goalkeeper Andre Onana will rejoin to the squad after missing the weekend’s match against Newcastle United, as speculation over his future at the club grows.

“Onana will play tomorrow,” the coach announced.

“As a former coach and player, I strive to do things that can assist a player in this scenario. We speak about controlling athletes physically, but we also need to manage them emotionally. This week, I planned to play Onana.

“I am attempting to be transparent and make a value. Andre is ready to return and start the game.”

The Portuguese head coach was then questioned about the importance of Champions League qualifying and how it would influence their budget in the future if they missed out again.

“If you have the Champions League, you know you have a larger budget to field a new team next season. “I believe we will discover it next season,” he remarked.

“When it comes to planning for the upcoming season, I believe it all comes down to finances. The Champions League has the potential to transform everything. If you compete in the Champions League, you will face elite clubs on Wednesdays and weekends. This is the finest option. But we must have the greatest team. That is critical as we plan for the upcoming season.”

Finally, he spoke about Onana again, revealing that he feels he deserves to start against Lyon despite his faults in the first match.

“When I made that decision in the last week, I talked with Andre and that is important for me to explain what I am thinking,” says Amorim. “I discussed it with my coaches, but it is ultimately up to me. I believe Andre deserves to return to the competition.”
